Garuda silver necklace

In Tibetan Buddhism, the roc is called "Garuda". Originating from Indian mythology, it was later absorbed by Buddhism and endowed with Buddhist significance. It is a giant divine bird recorded in ancient Indian mythological legends and is the mount of the great god Vishnu.

It is usually depicted as having huge wings that can blot out the sky and cover the sun. Its body is shaped like a bird, but it is of enormous size. When its wings are spread, they can cover Mount Sumeru (the central mountain in the Buddhist view of the universe). Its feathers are brightly colored, with gold, red, etc. as the main colors. Its beak and claws are extremely sharp, symbolizing power and majesty.

Symbolic Meanings:

• Wisdom and Power: Garuda represents great power and can easily defeat evil forces. It also symbolizes wisdom. In Buddhist stories, it often appears as an all - seeing figure, able to distinguish good from evil and help believers overcome ignorance (in Buddhism, it refers to ignorance of the truth of the Dharma).

• Protective Function: It is the protective divine bird of Buddhism, guarding the Dharma and practitioners. When the Dharma is threatened or practitioners face the interference of demonic obstacles, Garuda will appear and exert its power to dispel evil and safeguard the dignity of the Dharma and the safety of practitioners.

• Symbol of Liberation: On the spiritual level of Buddhism, Garuda also symbolizes liberation from worldly bondage. Its flying ability symbolizes transcending the mortal world. It encourages believers to break through the shackles of the mundane world through practice, just like Garuda, and achieve spiritual freedom.
